At the SHOP at blankspace

Blankspace Gallery is pleased to invite you to the inaugural show of the SHOP at blankspace,
featuring specially commissioned charms by fourteen local and international artists.
The artists have used paper, wood, plastic, and metal to make the charms,
which have been interpreted as decorative ornaments, tokens to ward off evil,
and as objects to allure and attract. Every charm is for sale,
and will be available only for the duration of the two month long show.

Artists included:
Alethea Beeker, Sita Bhaumik, Val Britton, Alex Gery, Onya Hogan-Finlay,
Helena Keeffe, Crystal Kovacs, Thomasin Parnes, Irit Reinheimer, Rachel Robertson,
Leah Rosenberg, Fereshteh Toosi, Anna Whitehead, and Shoko Yamamura.
The SHOP at blankspace is organized by Courtney Dailey.

I have been making a map of my thoughts
and small experiments since I moved to San Francisco.

The experiments include :

Monday Morning Cleaning,
Borrowed Landscape Cleaning,
music video
making a costume

Where will I go with these? I do not know yet.

What we (some artists mentoring me and I) have discovered is that
these experiments are not necessarily done to produce an art object.
It is the experience I receive through the experiments that means something, and that affects the map.

Some people wanted to define the experiments as "research"
to make a map.
But I had a hard time calling it a research.
It seems, at this moment, that what constitutes my work are both
my personal experience and my expression,
and they are related and of equal importance.

思考の地図、とでも訳したらいいだろうか、
その製作と、そして

Borrowed Landscape Cleaning,(邦題：借景清掃)
ミュージックビデオ

といったちょっとした実験的プロジェクトをいくつか行っている。

このプロジェクト群がどこへ向かっているのか、
私にはまだわからない。

唯一気付いたのは、
これらの実験は最終的に「美術作品」を作るのが目的ではなく、
この実験をするという事実、そこから得た経験、それが
目的そのものであったということ。
そしてその経験から得たものをもとに、
地図が形成、修正されてゆくということ。

この実験は地図を作るための「リサーチ」なんだろう、
とも言われたけれど、
私はどうにも「リサーチ」と呼ぶことに抵抗を感じている。
私の作品を構成する要素は
私自身の経験(実験)と思考の表現(地図)、
その両方であり、この二つは同じくらい重要で、
引き離すことが出来ないものである様にに思えるからだ。
